The project shown is an early design option for a 16-unit apartment building in the Alphabet Historic District. It weaves a modern design aesthetic with the historic typology of the “bricker” – a two-and-a-half story apartment building -- typically found in the Northwest District of Portland. Design studies focus on the deep recessed entries of the neighborhood, a lightwell to bring light and air to the interior of an elongated plan, and a roof deck for renters to take advantage of the expansive views towards Forest Park. The project continued to obtain entitlements for a 5-story, 19-unit apartment building with historic transfer credits with many of the same qualities.
